One Response to Round 6

  1. Josh D says:

With the 172nd selection, the Vikings draft DE Pierre Allen, Nebraska

The Vikings are going to need some depth built at the DE position. Ray Edwards is likely gone, but Brian Robison (a former 4th round pick) is expected to continue his development and take over that starting position. However, behind the starters, there isn’t much there. Griffin (last year’s 4th rounder) hasn’t shown he can be counted on off the field, and outside of special teams hasn’t performed on the field either. Pierre is a nice developmental pass rusher who can learn a lot from a man with the same surname.

With the 200th selection, the Vikings draft CB Ryan Jones, NW Missouri State

Depth at corner back is another need for the Vikings and they get a personal favorite in Jones. Has all the skills you look for at corner: measurables, stats, intangibles, and a great person off the field. The biggest knock is that he played in Div.III and will face much tougher challenges in the NFL. This is true, but he has also shown that he can perform under the highest of pressure (played in 3 national championship games) and can make plays when needed. Has a chance to be first CB in after Winfield, Griffin, Cook.
